In 2005 Mereminne Dancers visited the Swarthmore Project, a summer residency at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, to create the work Birdsong Sketches. Set to Olivier Messiaen's "Petites ésquisses d'oiseaux", the choreography is inspired by some of the characteristic traits of each of these different bird species, and by the energetic and rhythmic qualities of the music that Messaien composed to represent the song of each type of bird. The development of Birdsong Sketches was also made possible by a 2005 summer research grant from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. A further development of this work was later performed by students and faculty in Lacy's MFA concert Osmosis at UNC-Greensboro.
